This winter wedding inspiration shoot was inspired by an Olde World Romantic theme set in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The shoot took place at Smithmore Castle, a private mountain estate about 45 minutes outside of Asheville. Set atop English Knob, it is often called the “Castle in the Sky” and the sweeping mountain views provided a stunning backdrop for the talented team of vendors to work with.

The color scheme showed a twist on the traditional winter look with shades of light, dusty blue complimented by creamy peach and soft gold. Pops of dark purple added depth to the palette and provided a dramatic element to the delicate look. The rustic wooden table was outfitted in printed antique china while gold accents and blue and clear crystal glassware pulled the design together. An ivy runner was enhanced in the middle by a large floral arrangement full of mixed blooms and wispy branches that matched the details on the gorgeous cake. The textured, two-tiered cake in a dusty blue hue sat atop an antique gold platter and was encircled with more ivy and topped with flowers. The soaring white walls and sparkling chandeliers were an airy compliment to the stonework in the great hall and provided a modern castle feel.

The shoot featured two different types of models. The first bride’s look featured a flowing ballgown with glittering accents that was a gorgeous mix of winter glam and Olde World grace. Her makeup was the perfect match to the darker hues in her bouquet and was a gorgeous look for the more dramatic winter bride. Her groom wore a gray tux with a sharp white button down underneath, a fashionable yet laid-back look. The second bride was outfitted in a softer, more romantic gown with an empire waist and lace capped sleeves. Her bouquet featured soft pink and white roses and greenery and her free-flowing loose curls added a modern touch to her style. The entire shoot came together beautifully and truly captured the essence of a modern winter wedding in a mountain castle setting.

I have been gratefully calling these past few months "2016 Summer of Love." As a fan of music and nature, I often find myself constantly on the move. I wouldn't change this life I've built for anything.

While at times I've have found it difficult to balance work and play; I am happy with todays pace. Orders have become much more frequent. Weddings are booked. Autumn, my busiest time of year is nearly upon us! I've still managed to travel for family vacations, music festivals and camping trips. Best of all; In late July I was asked to play two very special rolls in a dear friend's wedding. Baker by Day - Bridesmaid by Night.

My mission was to make 250 mini pies. Normally all my baking is done in Asheville, NC. This event was being held in East Aurora, NY. Of course there would be no cutting corners. Everything would be made fresh, from scratch with locally sourced all natural ingredients. Deciding to make the pie dough in Asheville, using the week leading up to the wedding probably saved me from a lot of stress. I mixed and rolled out over 250 pie rounds and froze them. These were packed into a cooler that was checked on the airplane with me. (and yes, I was terrified of the possibility it would be lost or damaged!)

Arriving in Buffalove, NY I was pleased to see everything was going as planned. Mom was ready for me to take over her kitchen and my Dad had done his part by picking up 30 pounds of fresh blueberries from "his guy". They were so amazing! (Mom, Dad, and the blueberries!) As the baking began, my partner in crime and now pie master; Mr. Josh Bertram was also ready to help. Little did he know what he was in for! Many hours later we had done it! 125 pecan and 125 blueberry mini pies were made. There was also a small cutting cake. This was a special request for the ever so famous PieCake! This one was a Spiced Chai Sour Cream Pound with a Pecan Pie center.

I learned a lot about planning, organizing and multitasking. All in time to spend a lovely morning with my girls getting ready for the big event. Elise was the most beautiful bride. Her venue was perfectly adorned with her personal touches. I was truly honored to play such a special role. I've been apart of many weddings and events, they all hold a place in my heart. This one will forever stand out above the rest.
